Zach McCrum worked seven strong innings and struck out 13 in front of a handful of college scouts to propel South Forsyth to a 3-2 win over Winder-Barrow in eight innings on Monday at War Eagle Field.
War Eagles’ reliever Sammy Walker picked up the win after pitching a scoreless eighth inning, when teammate Nate Schmal stroked a one-out, bases-loaded single to drive in the winning run.
The War Eagles improved to 3-3 on the season, while the Bulldoggs (3-1) suffered their first loss.
"This was a good showing," South head coach Russ Bayer said. "I’m adamant [McCrum is] a [Division I] pitcher and Zach showed them tonight against a good team."
South will host Dunwoody on Thursday.
