South Forsyth at Chattahoochee
When, where: Friday, 7:30 pm, at The Arena in Alpharetta.
Records, rankings: South is 3-1 overall, 3-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked; Chattahoochee is 1-3, 1-2 and unranked.
Series history: Chattahoochee leads 6-2.
Last meeting: South won 31-24 in 2013.
What to know: Traveling to Chattahoochee is never an easy trip, and it should be a tough test again for South despite the Cougars’ recent struggles. Chattahoochee snuck by North on Sept. 7 on a field goal with less than a minute to play; quarterback David Nicoletta (Jr., 5-9, 160) threw touchdown passes of 73 and 21 yards to Isaac Kinsey (So.). “Playing Chattahoochee is always scary, because they’ve been so historically successful,” South coach Jeff Arnette said. “They’ve got some young talent at quarterback and receiver and they’re athletic on both sides of the ball, especially up front on defense.”
With a win on Friday, South would start 4-0 in region play for the first time since 2002, when the War Eagles opened with four straight Region 6-AAAA victories. Is a letdown coming after a 55-3 romp over rival North last week? Arnette doesn’t think so. “We try to be a different team every week,” he said. “Even if it’s something small, we get better every day and our offense is really clicking.”
