What to know: For the second time in three weeks South will face off with a top-10 opponent in Class 7A, and a win on the road could catapult the War Eagles back into the conversation that started last year of them being one of the state’s most prolific teams. Since their season opening loss South has been scoring at a blistering pace, with a 52-0 win over Pinecrest, a 56-21 win at Centennial and a 39-20 victory against South Gwinnett, which was ranked No. 6 at the time. Now South will be asked to come out of a bye week and take on a Lassiter team full of defensive talent. Lassiter defensive back Tyriq Hardimon is committed to play at Cal, despite 19 offers and counting, while junior Derrick Allen is considered one of the country’s top safeties. Even last week against Marietta quarterback Harrison Bailey, who has offers from many legacy college football programs, Lassiter allowed just two touchdowns.
Davis Shanley might be the key—expect his feet to be on display again. Despite a 4-0 record Lassiter isn’t super explosive on offense, having wins by 27, 24 and 21 points despite a 42-21 victory against Pope.
