Softball: South assistant Leanne Brooks elevated to head coach
Template_Graphic_South.jpg

Former South Forsyth softball assistant Leanne Brooks has been elevated to the War Eagles’ head coach.

Brooks takes the reins of the War Eagles’ program after the retirement of longtime head coach Ronnie Davis, who held the position for the last 17 seasons. Brooks has been an assistant under Davis since 2014, when she joined the softball staff as a community coach as she finished college.

For the War Eagles, Brooks was a natural fit for the newly vacant position. She knows the school well, having graduated from South in 2010 after four years on the softball team as a player. During her first stint with the War Eagles, Brooks earned all-county honors three times and was an all-region selection twice. After high school, she attended the University of West Georgia, but later transferred to Young Harris College, where she continued to play softball at catcher and shortstop.

The War Eagles head into the 2019 campaign looking to improve on a 13-16 season. South fell to Mill Creek in the second round of the playoffs last year.
