West Forsyth at Parkview

When, where:Today, 4 and 6 p.m., at Hugh Buchanan Field in Lilburn; tomorrow, 1 p.m., if necessary.

Record, ranking, seeding: West is 16-10, unranked in Class AAAAAA and the No. 4 seed from Region 6; Parkview is 22-4, ranked No. 2 and is the No. 1 seed from Region 8.

What to know: Get ready to meet Parkview senior pitcher Mac Marshall. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound southpaw is 7-0 with a 0.31 ERA in 44 2/3 innings with 62 strikeouts. He signed with LSU, but he’s expected to be an early pick in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He’s the main reason the Panthers are one of the major contenders for a state title.

West, meanwhile, just squeaked into the state playoffs in its final region game despite a roster with the kind of talent that portended a run at the region championship. Despite a 1-7 skid during the regular season, there’s plenty of reasons to think the Wolverines are a dangerous team, especially with a top of the lineup that features Stanford commit Alec Wilson, Mason McWhorter, South Carolina commit Chris Cullen and Hampton McConnell.

What’s next: The winner plays the Peachtree Ridge-Walton winner.
