FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Lambert at West Forsyth
Longhorns, Wolverines face off for first place in Region 5-7A

Lambert at West Forsyth

When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at The Den in Cumming.

Records, rankings: Lambert is 4-3 overall, 2-0 in Region 5-7A and unranked; West is 6-1, 2-0 and ranked No. 8 in Class 7A.

Series record: Lambert leads 3-1.

Last meeting: Lambert won 35-31 in 2015.

What to know: This will be a rematch of one of the games of the year from a season ago, when Lambert won and temporarily took hold of first place in the region by recovering a West fumble at midfield to preserve a thrilling victory. Despite leaving non-region play with a losing record, Lambert has taken care of business in league play with wins over South and North Forsyth.

The inability to stop the opponent might worry Lambert as West enters as a matured version of what the Longhorns saw last week in Coal Mountain. As long as Lambert’s Justin Bruno and Tyler Gillis are healthy they should be able to keep up in the scoring once again. The dynamic tandem of running back and receiver are seemingly scoring touchdowns of 50 or more yards week in and week out.

West will look to clean up issues from last week, including turnovers and penalties. The Wolverines threw three interceptions and had four personal fouls and 12 total penalties against Central. Expect quarterback Kiernen Hamilton to have a successful day through the air, and expect this contest to go down to the wire much like it did last season. The winner of this game will be in the driver’s seat for the region title.
