West Forsyth at Habersham Central

When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Raider Stadium in Mt. Airy.

Records, rankings: West is 1-2 overall, 1-1 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked; Habersham is 0-3, 0-2 and unranked.

Series record: First meeting.

What to know: The Wolverines last week started to resemble the team that went 7-4 last season and reached the state playoffs for the fourth straight season. They rushed for 296 yards and passed for 121 against Chattahoochee in building a 23-0 lead in the fourth quarter. Junior running back Austin Reid has started to emerge as one of the team’s more reliable weapons, accounting for 185 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Yet, West’s worries through three games resurfaced in that final quarter. The Wolverines amassed almost 100 yards of penalties and held on for a 23-15 victory.

Still, West figures to have reason for optimism against a Habersham team that’s in the midst of a 16-game losing streak dating back to 2012, the longest in school history. The Raiders were dominated 49-7 by South Forsyth last week and have been outscored 113-21 on the season. The plan was for a veteran offensive line, led by Clay Nelson, Ryan Kelley and Duncan Holbrook, to protect quarterback Bennett Black, who missed all of last season with an injury, but that hasn’t materialized.
