Forsyth County News

When, where: Today, 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., if necessary 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Archer.

Records, seedings: West is 19-10 and the No. 3 seed from Region 6-AAAAAA; Archer is 21-9, and the No. 2 seed from Region 8.

On West: For the Lady Wolverines, it’s about finishing what they set out to accomplish: make a run in the state playoffs.

"We’re going to have to play our best to compete," West coach Justin Rickett said. "I think we can, and I think it’s a good matchup for us. I hope our girls are extra motivated because it’s the state playoffs. They spend a whole lot of time doing this stuff and it’s all for the [playoffs]."

On Archer: The Lady Tigers won the Class 6A state tournament last season and their experience in the playoffs may give them an added edge. Alesha Mann leads Archer with a team-high .409 batting average.

"They’re a very athletic team," Rickett said. "They run well and have two or three girls with some power that can hit a home run. They’re the defending state champions, so they have good athletes, but I don’t think they’re as strong in the circle. They can score runs and they can play defense."

What’s next: The winner plays the winner of Lassiter-Habersham Central.
