ROME – West Forsyth added two new state champions Friday at the GHSA State Track & Field Championships.
Senior Jack Haller won the pole vault title, clearing 15 feet 6 inches, while senior Liz Galarza won the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes 0.45 seconds.
Both Wolverines were pushed by their competition.
For Haller, it was Parkview’s Brian Hauch, who came in second at 15-0. For Galarza, it was Colquit County’s Elizabeth Funderburk, who was just 0.19 seconds behind Galarza.
South Forsyth’s Kaylee DuPont and Milicent Bergey also placed in the 1,600, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Galarza added a second-place finish in the 3,200, while DuPont finished sixth in the event.
Forsyth County had three other state placers on the second day of the state championships, which were held at three different sites.
West Forsyth’s Abigail Robertson placed third in the pole vault by clearing 10-0.
South Forsyth’s Ridvan Kazimov placed third in the shot put with a throw of 49-11.
Lambert’s Tyler Fox placed eighth in the 1,600 in 4:21.80.
Lambert’s Jalen Kidd placed eighth in the long jump in 22-4.5.
