What to know: West is back in the state playoffs for the first time since 2011 when the Lady Wolverines reached the Elite Eight in Class AAAAA. West made a nice leap from going 18-25 last season, and the addition of move-in Taylor Ashcraft has been a big reason why. The junior hitter from Florida leads the team in kills (258), aces (76) and digs (230). But there’s also been the Lance sisters of Chloe (227 kills) and Shelby (208), junior Jordan Leitch (639 assists) and junior Danielle Menningman (223 digs). Add in Caroline Frye, Savannah Butler, Gabby Bachner and others, and the Lady Wolverines are deep with contributors.
Roswell can say the same, though it certainly follows the lead of Townson University commit and senior Alex Mills who has a team-best 533 kills to go along with 277 digs, 49 aces and 31 blocks. Morgan Jones (860 assists) sets up the Lady Hornets’ Mills, Sarah Hall (232 kills) and Mathilde Carpet (175), while Roswell gets help on defense from junior Caitlynn Brooks (280 digs), Camryn Bossinas (250), Mills (277), Hall (245) and Jones (214).
What’s next: The winner will play the Campbell-Lee County winner on Oct. 21.
