West Forsyth junior Austin Sanders placed fifth at 170 pounds at Sham Slam VIII on Saturday.

In arguably the toughest regular season tournament in the state, the Wolverines sent four wrestlers to go up against some of the top wrestlers.

West sophomore Denver Stonecheck went 3-2 on the weekend at 120 pounds, getting knocked out of the tournament by Archer’s Alex Standridge, the defending Class AAAAAA individual champion.

Stonecheck’s most impressive win was a 16-4 major decision against Gilmer’s Marcelino Lopez, the Class AAAA runner-up last season.

The Wolverines return to action Wednesday at South Forsyth.
