CUMMING – A 14-year-old girl was killed and three others – including a female who is pregnant – were injured in a car crash near the Buford Dam Thursday evening.

The single-vehicle wreck occurred at 6 p.m. Thursday on the roadway leading to Lower Pool Park off Buford Dam Road, when the driver of the 1996 Toyota Camry lost control of her vehicle, partially overturning onto the driver’s side and coming back onto all four wheels before crashing, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Cpl. Robin Regan said.

Morgan Tumlin, 14, of Buford, was ejected from the vehicle and temporarily pinned underneath the car, Regan said.

Two other passengers were able to exit the vehicle and push it off Tumlin, who was reportedly not conscious.

She was transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where she succumbed to her injuries.

A medical helicopter was initially called but canceled because a Gwinnett County medical unit arrived quickly enough, Regan said.

Regan said her mother and stepfather were notified at Northside.

Latoya Tabordon, a 22-year-old female from Gainesville who is 36 weeks pregnant with twins, was transported to North Fulton Hospital with serious injuries, where she and the babies were evaluated.

Regan said the twins and mother were last listed as stable but bruised and are expected to be OK. Tabordon was kept in the OBGYN observation wing at North Fulton overnight.

The third passenger, 18-year-old Elijah Mayfield, of Buford, was also taken to North Fulton Hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

Regan said he has been released.

The driver, 19-year-old Kayla Savanna Welch, of Buford, was transported to North Fulton Hospital with what were described as serious injuries and has since been discharged, Regan said.

A crash investigation unit from the sheriff’s office responded to the scene, which remains an active investigation. Charges will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

Buford Dam Road was partially blocked while emergency crews worked the scene.
