NORTHEAST FORSYTH -- One person was hospitalized in critical condition and two others were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday in the northeast corner of Forsyth County.

The three were injured when their northbound 2003 Hyundai Elantra left the road on Crystal Cove Trail just north of Dawsonville Highway (Hwy. 53) at about 6:15 a.m. on Oct. 8, striking a “large tree head-on.”

Forsyth County resident Hayley Pierce, 20, was sitting unrestrained in the front seat and was trapped under the passenger side dash console, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office crash investigator.

After the Forsyth County Fire Department freed her, Pierce was flown to Atlanta Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

The back seat passenger, Theresa Pierce, 46 , of Forsyth County, was also unrestrained and was thrown through the windshield, coming to rest on the ground near the front passenger side of the vehicle.

She was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with what were determined to be non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, 20-year-old Wyatt Melton of Cumming, was also taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
