A section of the Big Creek Greenway will periodically close beginning Monday, April 17 due to the road widening project along Bethelview Road and the required bridge removal and replacement construction over Big Creek.
The pedestrian and bicycle multi-use trail that passes beneath the Bethelview Road Bridge will be closed between mile 8.3 and 8.5 while the Georgia Department of Transportation’s contractor, CMES Inc., completes the work.
Closures will occur for no more than three consecutive days per instance, according to Sarah Dunlap, a spokeswoman for the county, in a news release.
“The contractor has agreed to keep the greenway open on the weekends, and the Engineering Department is working with the contractor to limit the number of closures,” the release said.
The duration of the project to remove and replace the bridge is expected to take about two months, weather permitting.
During a closure, signs will be placed at the bridge underpass.
All four greenway trailheads will remain open throughout the closures.
