CUMMING -- Another installment of what is boasted as Forsyth County’s most unique race will happen Saturday.

The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce will host the eighth annual Boulder Dash at the Bluegrass Materials Quarry on Ronald Reagan Boulevard on Saturday. The race will begin at 9 a.m., and registration is 7:30-8:30 a.m.

“This is a 5K-10K run, walk,” said Tony Peters, vice president of community affairs with the Chamber. “The race starts at Northside Hospital [Forsyth] and runs through the Bluegrass Materials rock quarry, which brings a definite unique atmosphere for a race you can’t really get anywhere else.”

More than 1,000 participants had registered by Thursday, and Peters said he expects more to register before the race and on-site the day of the race. Registration is $35 and can be paid by cash, check or credit.

At the end of the race will be the Bluegrass Spring Fling for racers, family members and supporters. The entire event will benefit the Forsyth

County Parks Foundation.
“Local businesses and vendors have a tent and are providing some free things, as well as food and drinks,” Peters said.

For kids, the Spring Fling will have inflatables and the chance to check out some of the quarry’s trucks and machinery. The event will also have music from a live D.J.

“This is an area for spectators and loved ones and family to congregate to await the arrival of their loved one as they finish the race,” Peters said, “so we like to throw a little party.”

Those who have pre-registered for the race — pre-registration is closed — can pick up race packets at Lou Sobh Honda on Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Race participants and spectators are asked to park at Northside Hospital-Forsyth at the Women’s Center and medical office building parking lots, located at 1800 Northside Forsyth Drive. Buses will provide transportation to the quarry.
