ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation has launched a redesigned website, www.dot.ga.gov, that officials say is easy to navigate on computers and mobile devices.

It also boasts a new theme, TravelSmart, which represents the goals of ensuring safe and efficient travel by applying innovative engineering and cost-effective solutions to the state’s transportation system.

According to a news release from the department, TravelSmart covers all aspects of transportation, from roads and bridges to public transit and general aviation. Rail, waterways and bike and pedestrian programs also are covered.

Karlene Barron, director of communications for the DOT, said a major factor in the decision to overhaul the site was “feedback from the public, from contractors and employees that the old website had become cumbersome and cluttered.”

“It was difficult to find information,” Barron said. “The new site, which was developed in-house, simplifies the process of locating what you need.”

According to the DOT, the site has four components:

* DriveSmart, which addresses safety and congestion

* PartnerSmart, covering how DOT works with strategic partners

* BuildSmart, which includes project planning and construction

* InvestSmart, focusing on how the DOT allocates public resources
