CUMMING — A popular fresh concept grocery store chain is making plans to open a store in Cumming.
Donna Egan, director of public relations for Sprouts Farmers Market, confirmed the news in an email Friday.
“We recently announced Sprouts stores planned for the Atlanta area — Snellville, Cumming, Dunwoody, Johns Creek and Norcross,” she wrote. “We are busily working on plans.”
Egan did not provide any additional information about the future store, but Sprouts’ website indicates the five locations will be the first in Georgia and the Southeast.
Sprouts, which is popular in many Western states, has applied for a sign permit with Forsyth County. According to the application, the store will be located at 529 Lakeland Plaza.
The site, at slightly more than 28,000 square feet, formerly housed a Stein Mart department store, which closed last year.
According to its website, Sprouts has more than 165 stores and nearly 11,000 employees. Most of the locations are in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah.
The market is described as “a hybrid between a natural foods store, a farmers market and a conventional supermarket” serving as a “low-pressure, easy-to-shop, highly affordable steppingstone to better eating.”
