Work is set to begin this week on a new RaceTrac gas station in south Forsyth.

Officials with the Atlanta-based company said the new location at 1385 McFarland Parkway is scheduled to open between October and December of this year.

Like other RaceTrac gas stations either recently built or under construction in the county, the location will be one of the company’s “newest store prototypes, according to Megan Shannon, a company spokeswoman: a 5,500-square-foot space on 2.8 acres with a “clean, shoppable layout,” free Wi-Fi, frozen dessert station, large coffee area and exterior seating.

Once it opens, a nearby RaceTrac gas station at 915 McFarland Parkway will be closed, Shannon said.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved plans for the store at the site of a former BP gas station in May of 2018, which would be the fourth location for the company in Forsyth County.
