Christmas kick-off bazaar begins Friday
Holiday bazaar

With Christmas less than two months away, a local women’s church ministry is kicking off the holiday season with its 14th annual Holiday Bazaar.

On Friday, St. Benedict Catholic Church Women’s Guild, a women’s group that supports various charities and stresses local outreach, will host a wine and cheese preview sale event running from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

If you go

What: St. Benedict Catholic Church Women’s Guild Holiday Bazaar

Where: St. Benedict Catholic Church Parish Life Center; 11045 Parsons Road, Johns Creek, GA

When: 5:30-9 p.m. Friday, wine and cheese kick off; 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday

Cost: Free, though raffles and bake sales will be offered and vendors will have items for purchase

On Saturday, residents can get a jump start on their Christmas shopping with offerings from about 40 vendors – 22 returning merchants and 18 new sellers, according to Susan Kirby, a member of the guild.

“We have people coming from Virginia, North and South Carolina and locals,” she said. “The bazaar [features] the normal types of items – ceramics, handmade cards and stationery, and we have a gentleman who hand carves canes and people who take special orders. It’s all artisans that make their own products.”

Door prizes will be raffled off throughout the day Saturday, and non-artisan product proceeds go towards the guild’s various charities.

“We’d love to bring in about $8,000-$10,000 this year,” Kirby said, “but we know that’s a little bit of a reach because we don’t charge the vendors a lot of money. I think a small round table is $75 and then $95 and then $110. A lot of people love to [set up] here because the cost is not as high as other bazaars. We get a lot of repeat [vendors.]”

Kirby said the bazaar is the guild’s main fundraiser of the year.

The two-day event will run from 5:30- 9 p.m. Nov. 3 and from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at the St. Benedict Catholic Church Parish Life Center, at 11045 Parsons Road in Johns Creek. The guild will also be holding a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle and vendor raffle on Saturday.
