Authorities say that a 41-year-old Forsyth County man was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon after he was found on the Alliance Academy for Innovation campus allegedly in possession of two loaded handguns.

According to Forsyth County School System and Forsyth County Sheriff's Office officials, on Wednesday aftenoon school employees spotted a man near the back of the Alliance Academy campus off Lanier 400 Parkway in Cumming and notified school resource officers.

The man, later identified as Gene Steven Barbara, was quickly confronted by two school resource officers in the school's parking lot, and was allegedly found in possession of two loaded handguns and a valid Georgia Concealed Carry permit, authorities say.

In separate releases on the incident, authorities called the situation an "isolated incident," stating that Barbara did not enter the school and does not appear to have had any intent to cause harm.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokesman Cpl. Doug Rainwater said on Wednesday evening that investigators are still trying to determine why Barbara was at the school and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Barbara has been charged with possession of firearms in a school zone and cited for loitering and prowling.

He is being held in the Forsyth County Jail under a bond of $625.
