CUMMING – A Cumming man was arrested after a traffic stop Sunday, Aug. 14 for suspected trafficking in methamphetamine.

Jim Poff, 44, was traveling northwest on Jot Em Down Road when a deputy pulled him over for a shattered windshield. After speaking with Poff, the deputy became suspicious of drug use, given Poff’s grinding of his jaw, nerves and sunken face, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office report.

Poff stepped out of his car and emptied his pockets, per the deputy’s request. He was carrying a “large knife in a sheath on his side” and had a “large stack of money” in his right pocket, the report stated.

After receiving permission from Poff to search the car, the deputy, as well as another deputy who arrived on scene, reportedly found knives and airsoft guns, as well as drugs.

In a brown leather bag, the report said, deputies found a glass pipe with white residue inside, a scale and plastic baggies filled with drugs.

In total, Poff was found to have 36 grams of meth, 34 grams of marijuana, oxycodone and morphine, according to Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Poff also had more than $3,300 in cash on him, Rodriguez said.

A sergeant arrived on scene and charged Poff with trafficking in methamphetamine, the report said.

He was then brought to the Forsyth County Jail where he remains, according to Rodriguez, without bond.
