EAST FORSYTH – Two brothers have been accused of selling fentanyl and other narcotic drugs through an online business out of their home and were arrested after the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and federal agencies searched the east Forsyth residence.

Zackary Christopher Berrong, 25, and Charles Trenton Berrong, 20, were arrested after a search warrant was executed on March 20 at a home on Pinecrest Place off Bald Ridge Marina Road, where authorities found suspected fentanyl, LSD, cathinone, diazepam and butylone.

The brothers were allegedly buying the drugs in “large quantities” and selling them to customers through an online business, according to Deputy Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

No bond has been issued, and both remained in the Forsyth County Jail as of Thursday morning.

Both have been charged with three counts of possession of a schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute, one count of possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute, one count of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of drug related objects.

Fentanyl is a strong opiate that has been linked to “many overdose deaths,” Rainwater said.

He said a hazardous materials team searched the house due to safety concerns over the drug and “the risk of exposure to officers.”

Most of the drugs were in powdered form, and several were described as research chemicals, or chemicals that mimic the effects of narcotics and are not meant to be consumed. Some non-illegal research chemicals were also found.

FCSO worked with federal agencies, including the United States Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations and Drug Enforcement Administration.

An investigation remains open.
