Two men from Cumming were arrested on a variety of drug, weapon and traffic charges after they were allegedly witnessed racing at speeds of more than 100 mph down Ga. 400.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office incident report, at about 8:30 p.m. a deputy on McFarland Parkway allegedly observed two BMW sedans traveling “approximately 100-110 miles an hour, side by side, down McFarland Parkway toward Ga. 400.”

Both vehicles were quickly stopped by sheriff’s office patrol cars along Ga. 400 and Claudio Marcelo Burtin, 56, and John Winfield Borhman, 39, were taken into custody.

The report states that during the traffic stop of Borhman’s vehicle, deputies allegedly discovered a small amount of marijuana and a loaded .40 caliber handgun and found that that he was a convicted felon. Deputies also believe that Borhman threw a tupperware container of marijuana prior to stopping his vehicle.

When Burtin was stopped, deputies discovered that he was driving an unregistered vehicle and found a vaporizer device allegedly containing THC oil, the report states. 

Borhman has been charged with racing, reckless driving, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Burtin has been charged with racing, reckless driving, possession of a schedule I controlled substance and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Both men were held in the Forsyth County Jail but have since been released.
