Man charged in fatal hit-and-run wreck
Woman died after collision on Ga. 400
Walter Edward Bell july 2011

A 44-year-old Atlanta man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run wreck that claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman over the weekend, authorities said.

Walter Bell was arrested Sunday and charged with first degree homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, felony murder and hit and run.

He is being held without bond at the Forsyth County Detention Center.

Bell is thought to have caused a wreck that happened about 9:42 a.m. Saturday on Ga. 400 north, near the Pendley Road overpass.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s report, Jenny McMillan Gutierrez of Roswell was traveling north on Ga. 400 in a 2003 Mercury Sable when the vehicle was struck in the rear by a white sedan attempting to pass.

The bump caused Gutierrez to lose control of the Sable, leave the highway and collide with trees on the east side of the corridor, according to the report.

Gutierrez was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where the report said she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the sedan, later identified as Bell, did not stop and continued north on Ga. 400, according to the report.
