A 23-year-old woman remained hospitalized Wednesday morning while authorities continued their search for a driver who fled the scene of a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday night.

The incident occurred about 6:15 p.m. on Bethelview Road just west of Polo Fields Parkway.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Capt. Frank Huggins said Cynthia Puckett was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in serious condition.

Puckett was the passenger in a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 flatbed that struck a sport utility vehicle and a tree before landing in a ditch.

The driver, whose name has not been released, ran away.

Huggins said the truck hit a 2001 Ford Expedition driven by 38-year-old Angel Corona of Norcross before it stopped.

Corona also was injured, but treated and released, Huggins said.

Corona was traveling east on Bethelview when the wreck occurred.

"(He) observed a vehicle driving erratically approaching him from behind," Huggins said. "He pulled into the turning lane (on the right hand side of the road) of the Polo Fields to get out of the oncoming vehicle's way."

Huggins said the truck entered the turning lane, striking the expedition from behind.

Huggins said evidence at the scene indicated the driver was injured. He said authorities conducted "an extensive ground search" using dogs but "were unable to find the driver of the truck."

The road was closed during the search. Traffic was rerouted through the Polo Fields subdivision before the road reopened at 8:25 p.m.

The truck had a Roof Depot logo on the side. Attempts to reach representatives of the Cumming company Wednesday morning were not successful.
