BUFORD — A man was shot and injured during a fight overnight Sunday at Lake Lanier Islands, and authorities are working to identify three suspects in the incident.

Hall County Sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement agencies responded about 12:45 a.m. Sunday to lake houses at the islands.

They arrived to find 23-year-old Malik Davis of Union City with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he is listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit following emergency surgery.

The sheriff’s office reported friends from metro Atlanta had rented a lake house to celebrate a birthday. Three men showed up uninvited and an argument turned into a fight.

Witnesses said Davis tried to break up the fight and shots were fired, according to the sheriff’s office.

SWAT team members along with Flowery Branch police officers, Department of Natural Resources personnel and Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to the scene.

Investigators are trying to identify the suspects with help from the resort’s security and staff.
