Two Atlanta men are now in Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office custody after allegedly burglarizing one business and attempting to burglarize another on Tuesday morning, authorities say.

According to sheriff’s office spokesman Cpl. Doug Rainwater, at about 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning, owners of Beverage World of Cumming on Lanier 400 Parkway were notified that the business’s alarms had been triggered.

From a mobile phone, the owner was able to watch the burglary in progress, as a suspect entered the business wearing a “sock monkey” patterned ski mask, rifled through the business and fled.

Rainwater said that even though deputies arrived on scene within minutes, the suspect escaped the location.

Ten minutes later as the business was being investigated, deputies received word that another business alarm had been triggered, this time at a Chevron Gas Station on Browns Bridge Road in north Forsyth.

Again, Rainwater said that deputies arrived at the business after suspects had already fled the location, but this time no entry had been made into the business.

From the security footage at Beverage World, deputies were able to pull a description of the suspect and transmit it to authorities throughout the county.

Within 30 minutes the suspect description was called into action, Rainwater said, when deputies recognized the “sock monkey” ski mask that was allegedly sitting in plain view of a vehicle driven by two males that had been stopped on the south end of Atlanta Highway for a tag violation.

From that stop and other evidence allegedly found in the vehicle, Melvin Telford Harris, 35, and Damon Jermone Moss, 30, were placed under arrest.

Harris, the driver of the vehicle and suspected burglar of Beverage World, has been charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit a burglary, possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended driver’s license and obscured or missing license plate.

Moss has been charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit a burglary.

As of Tuesday evening, both were held in the Forsyth County Jail under no bond.
