A Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the burglary of three storage units last month has resulted in six arrests on drug and other charges.
Five of the six suspects, who range in age from 19 to 27 and hail from various parts of the Forsyth County area, remain in custody at the local detention center.
Among the charges some of the suspects face are felony theft, burglary, trafficking methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
“This investigation clearly shows the connection between thefts and the drug culture,” said Sheriff Duane K. Piper. “Our investigators did a good job in following up on all leads, recovering much of the stolen property.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the case began when three storage units and a cargo trailer were burglarized at Sawnee Storage off Hwy. 20 sometime between Jan. 27 and 29.
Piper said video surveillance footage led investigators to a suspect, 20-year-old Joshua L. Williams of Sugar Hill.
Williams was arrested after a short chase Feb. 5 on Settingdown Road, during which at one point Piper said he drove in reverse down the road, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was charged with three counts each of felony theft and burglary in the second degree, as well as criminal trespass and many traffic offenses.
Further investigation led authorities to search three homes. According to the sheriff’s office, stolen items were found at a Settingdown Road residence, while lawn equipment taken from the storage unit turned up at a home on Jones Bridge Road in Alpharetta.
The final search warrant was for a home on Leigh Lane in north Forsyth, where investigators recovered a flat screen TV that was missing from one of the storage units. They also discovered suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as drug-related objects.
In addition to Williams, the sheriff’s office has arrested five other suspects. They include:
* Ashley C. Laird, 26, of Alpharetta, whose charges include three counts each of felony theft and burglary in the second degree and one count of criminal trespass.
* Amber L. Nicholson, 23, of Flowery Branch, who faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug-related objects and obstruction.
* Brynn A. Grichuck, 27, of Suwanee, who was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Also arrested by the sheriff’s officer were Cody J. Beavers, 21, and Colton R. Beavers, 19, both of north Forsyth.
Cody Beavers has been charged with theft by receiving, trafficking methamphetamine and felony obstruction. Other charges include possession of marijuana and possession of drug-related objects.
Colton Beavers faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects. He was released from custody Feb. 12 after posting $12,265 bond and is scheduled to appear in Forsyth County Drug Court on Monday.
