Those hoping to receive assistance with Thanksgiving dinner this year still have a chance to apply.
Sandy Beaver, executive director of The Place of Forsyth County, said the organization will see applicants from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at 2550 The Place Circle.
Those in need should bring proof of household income for the past 30 days, proof of residency and photo identification. A current food stamp letter may be used to verify income.
Beaver said an unexpectedly low number of applicants has sought help so far this year.
“We only have about 150 families signed up now, which is about half of what the need was last year,” Beaver said. “I know there’s a need out there.
"I don’t know if people just don’t realize Thanksgiving is coming so soon and they need to apply.”
Beaver said gift cards for perishable items and boxes of nonperishable items will be distributed Nov. 20.
She said for those who’d like to give, The Place is also accepting food and monetary donations to help provide the Thanksgiving dinners.
