Forsyth County high schools earn 11 Shuler nominations, the top award for musical theater in Georgia

The Lambert High School performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” placed first at the Region 5-7A One-Act Play Competition on Oct. 27 at Milton High School.

Lambert High School’s production of ‘Newsies’ earned a county-best nine Shuler Award nominations, the highest recognition for high school musical theater in Georgia.

Lambert’s production earned nominations for best direction (Carly Ann Berg), best music direction (Ryan Wason), best choreography (Carly Ann Berg, Caroline Cannizzaro, Maddie Crews and Jenna Wagner), best ensemble, best technical execution (Carly Ann Berg and Michaela Nesbit), best performance by a leading actor (Jared Guerrasio), best performance by a supporting actor (Drew Davison), best performance by a featured performer (Cooper Mabry) and best overall production.

Meanwhile, West Forsyth earned two nominations for best technical execution and best scenic design for its production of ‘Hello, Dolly!’ In addition, the high school earned an honorable mention in best direction (Eric Gray) and best overall production.

Denmark and North Forsyth also received one honorable mention, Denmark for best technical execution (Kirk Grizzle and Megan Erasmus) of its production of ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie,’ and North Forsyth for best performance by a leading actor (John Drake) in ‘The Pajama Game.’

Winners will be announced on Thursday, April 18, during the 11th annual Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards-Shuler Hensley Awards at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

The event will be streamed live on Georgia Public Broadcasting starting at 8 p.m.
