As part of an effort to aid victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Forsyth County residents are encouraged to drop off blankets and sleeping bags at Haw Creek Elementary School.

The collection effort is led by 8-year-old Hannah Lucas.

The elementary student saw the destruction from the Jan. 12 earthquake and “stood in front of the TV and cried,” said her mother, Robin Lucas.
After learning that Partners in Health was collecting supplies, Hannah Lucas began reaching out to the community to collect blankets and sleeping bags.

She’s collected more than 600 so far, but is hoping to reach her goal of 10,000 blankets and sleeping bags by February.

Donations can be made at the school.
