A student from Forsyth County was part of the University of Georgia Undergraduate Mock Trial Program that recently placed third in the American Mock Trial Association’s national championship tournament.
Alana Driscoll of Cumming helped the UGA team compete against more than 633 teams from 300 institutions during the challenge held in Iowa.
Teams from the University of California Los Angeles and New York University placed first and second, respectively.
Brian Mink, UGA Mock Trial president, explained the university's mock trial program differs from the majority of teams in the association because there is no coach.
The team’s 55 undergraduate members fill all leadership and training roles.
The team placed above programs with as many as 10 professional attorney-coaches, some of whom have argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.
In addition to Driscoll and Mink, the university’s team also included Veronica Evans of Johns Creek and Alex Galvan, Lauren Lutton, Vera Maladtsova, Michelle Pope and Ethan Treacy.
