Track competition in Cumming on Sunday open to elementary students
running

The Rio Olympic Games are now behind us, but that doesn’t mean tomorrow’s athletes are done with competition.

On Sunday at 1 p.m., Forsyth County’s Parks and Recreation Department will host the 2016 Future Olympians Track Competition at Forsyth Central High School, which is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

“The Future Olympians Track Competition is always an afternoon of fun for our county’s elementary school students,” Parks and Recreation Director Jim Pryor said in a news release. “This year’s competitions will include the long jump, softball throw and various running events.”

The event is $5 per child, and registration opens at noon.

Competitors will be put with teams of classmates from their school and will be competing for the title of 2016 Forsyth County Elementary School Track Champion.

Medals will be given out to the top three competitors in each event, and plaques will be given to the three schools with the most points and to the school with the most participants.

T-shirts will also be given to the first 500 students to register.

Central is located at 131 Elm St.
