For Vickery Creek students, the complex stock market is sheer elementary.

Students from the elementary school in south Forsyth placed first and second in the state for their stock portfolio’s performance during the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation’s Stock Market Game.

The competition gives students a virtual cash amount of $100,000 to invest in an online portfolio.

They then work to create a group of stocks using live trading simulation and increase their portfolios.

Rachel Hale, Abby Huggins, Marissa Ilardi and Rachel Murray earned the highest return on their mock investment, increasing their portfolios to nearly $133,300 and taking the title of top elementary school team in the state.

The girls finished in 12thplace out of nearly 4,000 teams nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Vickery team of Siva Appana, Emily Bloomquist, John Austin Branham and Anna Gizinski came in second in state by increasing their portfolio to more than $117,700.

The students will attend the 33rdAnnual Georgia Stock Market Game awards luncheon next month at the Georgia Freight Depot.
