Keep Forsyth County Beautiful will hold the first of two free workshops on protecting local waterways Saturday.

The second workshop will be Nov. 19. Both of the sessions, organized through the Adopt-A-Stream program, are set for 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cumming Library, 585 Dahlonega Road.

Saturday’s bacterial and chemical monitoring workshop will show participants how to test a stream for dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature and E. coli.

The second workshop will focus on biological monitoring, including how to take an inventory of macroinvertebrates, which can help determine a stream’s health.

The goal of the Adopt-A-Stream program is to teach folks about local water quality and ways to protect it.
