NORTH FORSYTH – Young golfers are being invited to play in a tournament in memory of a north Forsyth teen and promising golfer whose life was claimed in a car accident last summer.

Registration for the Joe Dumphy Memorial Classic is open to all golfers between the ages of 8 and 18 who register by Wednesday, June 15. The event is part of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) and will be held at the Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch on June 25-26.

The event will have Junior Gold Scoreboard Ranking, and “winners in each division will receive an invitation to the 2016 National Championship on Dec. 3-4.”

Top 10 finishers will receive points toward year-end honors, which include state teams, All-HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.

Dumphy was a freshman at North Forsyth High School when he and his grandparents were involved in a head-on collision as they were leaving the Chestatee Golf Club. Both he and his grandfather were killed in the crash.

Since then, the Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarship Fund has been established in his honor to award other young golfers funding for college for being not just good at the sport but for being upstanding citizens.

The event will award four performance starts for the Girls 14-18 champion and one for the Girls 14-18 top three.

This event offers two days and 36 holes of competition. The first round will begin with a double tee start from noon to 2 p.m., with the final round being at 8-10 a.m. on the second day.

An award ceremony will follow the competition.

Registration is $195 for HJGT members and $245 for non-members.
