Left turn will temporarily close on Hwy. 141 at Callaway Court in south Forsyth
Georgia DOT and Forsyth County looking for public comment on the change
BARRELLS

The Georgia Department of Transportation will temporarily close the left turn lane at the intersection of Hwy. 141 and Callaway Court.

This change in operation comes as a response to concerned residents in the county who want to make the changes permanent.

A GDOT traffic engineering report for the intersection of Callaway Court and Hwy. 141, which was done after a wreck that killed a Forsyth County man in January, concluded that although a traffic signal is not warranted at the intersection, by partially or fully closing the median between the east and west sides of Peachtree Parkway at Callaway Court, “crossing conflicts” could be eliminated at the intersection.

“Before making this permanent, we will use barrels and signage to temporarily eliminate the left turns from [Hwy.]  141 on to Callaway Court. We will study the affect this change has on traffic and also ask for public comments regarding this change,” according to District Traffic Engineer SueAnne Decker.

Maintenance crews will place the barrels and additional signage on Wednesday, May 1. The left turn lane closure will be in effect starting at 10 a.m. This temporary change will remain through the end of the month to allow the evaluation of traffic and public comments. After that, a decision will be made on final intersection design for this location.

Georgia DOT and Forsyth County will take comments via email regarding this change between May 3 and May 31.

You can send emails with comments regarding the change in operations to Georgia DOT District Traffic by emailing D1trafficops@dot.ga.gov.
