To participate in the golf tournament, send your name, telephone number and address to bgtoman@comcast.net or fax to (678) 807-8512 by Thursday. The registration fee of $50 can be paid Friday at Countryland Golf Course, 6560 Mayfield Drive.

American Legion Post 307 is holding a golf tournament Friday at Countryland Golf Course, with proceeds benefitting veteran and youth programs.

Geoff Toman, post commander, said a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one on the course’s fifth hole is one of the awards being offered.

Others include $300 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third, as well as prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin.

"Nearly everyone who participates will have a door prize," Toman said.

Among the prizes are gift certificates to local restaurants, Georgia Tech football tickets and golf equipment and shirts.

This is the first year the post has held the tournament, which Toman hopes will be a success.

"Other posts around us do fundraisers in this manner, so we thought we’d try one ourselves," he said. "The golf committee chairman Guy Sillay has worked tirelessly."

Toman said the group aims to raise at least $4,000 for a number of Legion programs.

The tournament begins with lunch, which can be bought for an additional fee, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
