FORSYTH COUNTY — The Chestatee River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently presented the DAR Medal of Honor to Robert "Nick" Youdell of Cumming.

According to the chapter, the recipient must have made unusual and lasting contributions to American heritage by truly giving of himself or herself to his or her community, state, country and fellowman.

In addition, many recommendations and approvals at the state and national level are required.

Youdell, who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, is a 20-year member of the American Legion.

Among his many accomplishments, he was instrumental in organizing an "Adopt A Highway" program for the Legion Post 307 in Cumming.

In 2008, Youdell secured, painted and set up a community flag drop box for unserviceable flags behind the fire station on Castleberry Road.

And he has volunteered in the emergency room at Northside Hospital-Forsyth for the past 11 years.
