SOUTH FORSYTH — Get ready to flip the calendar back a few decades Saturday as Forsyth County Senior Services holds the Company B 40s/USO Dance at Sexton Hall and Enrichment Center.

“We’re going to having a  ’40s USO- themed kind of dance, like the dance hall’s they’d do around the time of World War II,” said Julie Gruen, special events team leader for senior services. “It’s for all ages 40 and up. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door or admission is free for veterans.”

Set for 6:30 to 9: 30 p.m., the event’s World War II-era theme and free admission for veterans was a natural fit.

“It actually worked out well as far as the scheduling and putting it after Memorial Day,” Gruen said. “We wanted to do something that tied in with honoring the service that veterans have given to this country.”

Of course, no themed dance would be complete without music from the era, which is going to be handled by local residents.

“The music is all going to fit in the ’40s era, which was the time of swing dancing, big band sound, some jump and jive, all those kinds of things from the ’40s and it will be provided by the Sawnee Swing Band,” Gruen said. “We’re looking forward to a great event and hope we have a great turnout.”

Sexton Hall is at 2115 Chloe Road, just off of Sharon Road between Peachtree Parkway and Old Atlanta Road.
