Four Forsyth County high school seniors were awarded a scholarship in honor of a former youth golfer.

Joe Dumphy Memorial Golf Scholarships were awarded to Hunter Galbraith, Drew Nizialek and Parker Vaughan from North Forsyth and Jake Scharff from Forsyth Central with a total amount of $13,000.

Joe Dumphy was a freshman at North Forsyth High School when he died in July 2015 after sustaining injuries in a car wreck as he left Chestatee Golf Club in Dawsonville.

A memorial scholarship was established in his honor by his family to financially assist junior golfers as they chase the college dream that Dumphy was not able to pursue. The scholarship has awarded more than $45,000 in four years.

The Dumphy family is already planning for the next Joe Dumpy Memorial Golf Scholarship golf tournament that serves as the main fundraising event. This year’s tournament will be Sept. 7 at Chestatee Golf Club.

Any companies or individuals interested in supporting the scholarship through hole sponsorships or raffle donations are encouraged to email joedumphygolf@gmail.com.
