DAWSONVILLE — With the weather forecast calling for a break from the rain, anyone looking for something fun to do this weekend with family and friends can head to the Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville and also support a Forsyth County nonprofit.

Karting for The Place of Forsyth County is set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at 20 Duck Thurmond Road in Dawsonville.

According to officials with The Place, the karting event is “no short-lived experience. Everyone talks about this for years. This is as close to the real thing as it gets.”

Funds will benefit the social service nonprofit that has served Forsyth County residents since 1975 with emergency basic needs in difficult times. The Place also has a thrift store on site to provide affordable merchandise to the public, and all sales support agency operations.

The cost for one karting session is $40 — a $5.66 discount — and includes the kart, a $50 deductible insurance, headsock, taxes, tutorial and race stats.

Karters ages 6 and older are welcome to join in the fun, as the activity provides an “easy way to enjoy an exhilarating sport in which everyone in the family can participate.”

Children must be 12 to ride in a single kart. Kids 6 and older can ride in a double kart with a person who is at least 21.

Riders must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes, and it is recommended to wear long sleeves or a jacket.

If you have groups that want to challenge other groups, sessions can be managed as competing teams.

The track is .85 miles with multiple turns and more than 40 feet of elevation change.

All skill levels are also encouraged to try it out, starting at 15 mph, some with hyper performance, 0 to 125 mph in six seconds and pulling 3 “G’s” of cornering force, similar to an F1 car, according to Atlanta Motorsports Park.

To purchase a ticket, call The Place at (770) 887-1098 or contact Becky Powell at beckypowell52@gmail.com or (404) 725-5933.
