Ping pong fans can watch two experienced players battle it out Thursday night at First Redeemer Church on Peachtree Parkway.

Those wanting to get a game in before the exhibition starts can show up at 6 p.m. Organizers will have a quick devotional and Petro Stirbu and Willy Xiao will “give folks a good show,” according to event organizer Gerald Echols.

Echols said Stirbu, originally from Romania, is “quite a showman,” while Xiao is a “rising young star from Alpharetta.”

The free event will be held in the church’s gymnasium, part of the student and family center.

Echols, a seasoned ping pong player, explained that the sport is “called ‘table tennis’ when you’re in a gym and ‘ping pong’ when you’re in a basement.”

He said church members “thought it would be good to have an exhibition match and have people come watch.”

“A lot of people have never seen anybody play like these guys play,” Echols said. “These guys really hit it hard. It is quite a show.”

Free ping pong starts at 6 p.m., before the exhibition begins at 7 p.m.

“It will be a good time,” Echols said.
