A 24-year-old man was hospitalized late Wednesday after a two-vehicle wreck on a northeastern Forsyth County road.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Capt. Tim House said the collision occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Hwy. 53 at Dogwood Path.

He said a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Philip Steven Young of Quail Trail, collided with a 2008 Mercedes, driven by Michael Kinsey, 54, of Hall County.

Young, who authorities said was unconscious and suffered a severe head injury, was taken to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell. House did not know Young’s condition Thursday.

House explained that the Mercedes was heading east on Hwy. 53 when the Cobalt, which was traveling south on Dogwood, failed to stop at a stop sign and turned into the Mercedes’ path.

He said Kinsey was unable to avoid the Cobalt, striking it from behind and causing it to go out of control.

The Cobalt went into a spin, down an embankment and struck a tree. Young was trapped in the vehicle, House said.

Kinsey complained of soreness and went to a hospital for evaluation.

The wreck remains under investigation, House said, and charges have not yet been filed.

House said weather is not thought to have been a factor in the wreck.
