Forsyth County’s Play at the Park Family Fun Festival returns this year with a new location and day.

The ninth annual event, organized by the county parks and recreation department, will take place Sunday at Fowler Park.

The large open space in the center of Fowler, along with three pavilions and a nearby playground, made it a prime location for the event, said organizer Laura Pate.

"Also, for anyone who has not visited Fowler Park, it is a beautiful park to visit," Pate said.

The 85-acre site, located near Hwy. 9 and Castleberry Road, opened in February.

Jerry Kinsey, director of parks and recreation, said in a statement that the free event will provide "a great opportunity for families to come out and enjoy the park."

The festivities will include a petting zoo, inflatables, spin art, music, games and clown, magic and puppet shows.

A community expo will allow local businesses and organizations to share information. Food, drinks and crafts will be sold.

And in keeping with the fun-filled theme, each vendor will have a giveaway or activity for children, Pate said.

Previously held on Saturdays, the event shifts to Sunday in the hope that more families will be available to attend.

"We like to offer the event because it is a low-cost way to spend the day with your family close to home," Pate said.
