NORTH FORSYTH -- Law enforcement agencies from Forsyth County, with aid from surrounding counties, are looking for a missing person on Lake Lanier after a boat and personal watercraft collided Monday night.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is the primary search agency, working off Charleston Park in north Forsyth since about 9 p.m., according to Sheriff Ron Freeman.

“We’ve got a missing boater on Lake Lanier from a boating accident,” he said. “We’re working on getting [Georgia State Patrol] aviation and we’ve asked Gwinnett County aviation if they can get off the ground and get here.

“GSP’s coming soon to the lake, Hall County has got a boat and we’ve asked for assistance from Hall County and the [Department of Natural Resources] has put a boat in the water. At that point, with six or seven boats, we’re just trying to get a helicopter with a FLIR. [infrared camera]”

Freeman said the sheriff’s office’s mobile command unit may be dispatched, depending on how long the search goes on.
