Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle wreck Sunday that claimed the life of a 33-year-old north Forsyth man.

According to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Shelton, the crash occurred about 6 p.m. at Hubert Martin Road and Poplar Woods Drive.

Shelton said James Ryan Symmes of Woodruff Trace died after the northbound 2007 Chevrolet Trail Blazer he was driving crossed the centerline on Hubert Martin, went off the road and struck a pine tree.

Symmes, who Shelton said was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. He was about two miles from his home.

Also injured in the collision was a small terrier dog. Deputies took the dog to Orr Animal Hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.

No other people or animals were in the vehicle.
