A Dawsonville man has died of injuries suffered when he was crushed under a box truck in southeastern Forsyth, authorities said.

The wreck occurred about 8:40 a.m. Thursday at Hwy. 20 and Windermere Parkway.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Capt. Tim House said 52-year-old Carey James Abee was traveling east on Hwy. 20 on a 2011 Taizhou Meiduo scooter when he collided with a 2006 Isuzu box truck driven by John Stephen Simone.

House said Simone, 44, of Buford was traveling west on Hwy. 20 when he turned left onto Windermere Parkway.

“Mr. Simone failed to yield the right of way to Mr. Abee, causing the accident,” House said.

“The truck drove over the scooter and then hit the entrance sign of Windermere, causing the truck to turn over on its right side.”

House said Abee was trapped under the truck up to his waist.

“Good Samaritans were able to lift the truck and pull Mr. Abee out from under it,” House said.

Abee was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

As of Friday night, no charges have been filed. The wreck remains under investigation.
