Police K9 unit tracking armed robbery suspect in downtown Dawsonville

David Renner Dawson Community News Authorities are on the trail of a man they say robbed a salon owner in downtown Dawsonville at gunpoint this morning.

A daytime robbery in downtown Dawsonville has police following K-9 units on a search for an armed suspect.

According to Lt. Daniel Ramsey of the Dawson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, Salon Zoya was robbed at gunpoint this morning.

"Right around 9 a.m., a white male, about 5'11", average build, wearing grey-colored jeans and a black or blue hooded sweat shirt and a blue, canvas-style cover over his ... face came in the front door brandishing...a pistol and demanded the contents of the cash register," he said.

Academy Avenue and Bill Elliott Street are currently closed off by sheriff's officers while the investigation is being conducted.

Ramsey said there is no immediate cause for alarm, though he warned local residents to be cautious of their surroundings.
