A pregnant woman was killed and her husband injured Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle wreck in western Forsyth County.

Forsyth County Sheriff's spokeswoman Karleen Chalker said Shayna Lynn Thom, 26, died about 12:45 p.m. when the 2003 Cadillac Escalade in which she was riding overturned at Hurt Bridge and Pleasant Grove roads.

Thom, who was about 11 weeks pregnant, was partially thrown from the vehicle and then pinned underneath it, Chalker said. She died at the scene.

It was the first fatal wreck of the month in Forsyth County and sixth of the year.

Four people lost their lives on local roads in June. There was one traffic fatality in May.

While the circumstances have varied, authorities have said it appears the common thread in each incident was "inattentiveness while driving."

In Tuesday's accident, Chalker said it appeared the wreck occurred when the driver, Thom's husband Brad, ran off the road and lost control of the Escalade.

She said he was taken to North Fulton Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.

A section of Hurt Bridge Road was shut down for some time after the wreck, with traffic rerouted along Pleasant Grove.

Funeral services for Shayna Thom are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Kylie; parents, Pat and Connie Welch; and sister, Stephanie Welch, all of Cumming.
